Too much TV

I watch TV. There was a time in my life, as recently as seven months ago, that I watched a lot more television, but I still consider myself a person who watches a good amount of TV. I really miss it sometimes, especially since I gave up the TiVo for the cable company’s crappy DVR. (I say it’s crappy, even though it records two shows at once and is HD compatible, because it’s incredibly difficult to work the remote and get through the different menus. I miss my shiny, happy TiVo with it’s user friendly interface and fun recommendations.)

Currently the DVR is scheduled to record The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, LOST, Desperate Housewives, Boston Legal, The Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill, Reno 911, South Park, The Nine, Six Degrees, Flavor of Love 2, Celebrity Fit Club, How I met your Mother, My Name is Earl, The Office, Ugly Betty, Brothers and Sisters, Weeds, Big Love, Deadwood, the Sopranos, Entourage, Rome, the Simpsons and Family Guy. That is a huge list considering I’ll only ever watch maybe a quarter of the shows recorded. I never watch during the day because I don’t really want the Fiendling to watch too much TV and he won’t nurse if the TVs on because he’s too easily distracted. When he naps I always end up cleaning or blogging and at night if he actually goes to sleep before we do I’m usually at Boyfiend’s mercy and he’s very vocal about the shows he doesn’t like. Boyfiend also has a bad habit of asking, “can we watch a Daily Show,” minutes into whatever show I’ve just started watching, which annoys me to no end and leaves me with dozens of shows I’ve watched the first two minutes of and have to start from the beginning if I ever have the chance to watch them when he’s not around.

The most recent TDS and the first minutes of Colbert get watched before bed some nights. It’s been so long since we watched regularly I don’t even recognize some of the TDS’s correspondents.

The Office is the one show we watch without fail. We didn’t watch the first season because I didn’t think it would be as good as the British office but it got good press and when the first season played in reruns I recorded it and we were instantly hooked. Last year we agreed that it’s probably even better than the British Office and so far this season, it hasn’t yet proved us wrong. I can’t wait to see more of Ed Helms.

My Name is Earl is another one I probably shouldn’t bother with. I really like Jason Lee and I like the guy who plays his brother and I’ve liked all of the episodes I’ve watched, but I don’t watch it much and it always ends up getting deleted before I get to it because Boyfiend never wants to watch it.

We still haven’t watched last week’s LOST which is fine because we watched the first half of the first season all at once and since then we’ve tended to wait until we’ve had a bunch saved up so we can watch a few at a time. Of course we have a baby now, so a few at a time probably isn’t actually an option

The Gilmore Girls sucks ass so far. It’s sad. I don’t think it will survive the move to the new CW.

Desperate Housewives is so bad I fast forwaded through the first episode of the season, deleted the last two, and plan on deleting it from my scheduled recordings altogether.

One Tree Hill is a guilty pleasure I rarely get to watch, but I’m not deleting it yet.

Celebrity Fit Club I didn’t really watch this season, though I wanted to tune in to see how Tina Yothers did at the end.

Flavor of Love is a laugh riot. I can’t believe I didn’t watch the first season. Those women are… shit, I can’t even put it into words. I can’t believe anyone would actually have sex with Flavor Flav. Sadly Buckwild was let go, and I haven’t really watched since.

Boston Legal’s another one I may as well delete. Even though it was really, really good, I’ve only ever watched one episode.

Reno 911 is brilliantly funny, yet we somehow missed the entire last season.

South Park bores me these days, but Boyfiend still likes it.

Simpsons is hit or miss

Family Guy still has moments of hilarity

Six Degrees I may as well delete now, since I haven’t watched the first two and probably won’t

Ugly Betty is okay. I like America Ferrara, but the rest of the cast is kind of cartoony. I’ll give it a shot, but I may not get around to watching it most of the time.

The HBO shows I watch are all currently on hiatus

How I Met Your Mother is another one I record and don’t watch. I watched the pilot last season and thought it was cute, but only ever watched one more episode. I keep reading that the show’s going to really hit its stride this season and I love Doogie Howser, but I still haven’t found the time to watch the first couple of episodes.

Brothers & Sisters is eh. I watched it because I was curious to see how Calista Flockhart has aged, I still have my teenage (preteen?) crush on Balthazar Getty who was super cute in Lord of the Flies, and I really like the actress who played Brenda on Six Feet Under even though I’m completely blanking on her name right now and have no interest in looking it up. The show’s not that good, but I’ve watched all three episodes for some reason. I’ll probably keep right on watching it the same way I kept on watching Everwood even though that show sucked ass, too.

The Nine is amazing. I heard it was good and the other night I got Boyfiend to watch it with me. (After the first few minutes it occurred to him that he wasn’t, in fact, watching the new Tina Fey show which doesn’t even air until tonight. Despite the obvious lack of Tracy Morgan, by the time we got to the first commercial break, Boyfiend was in.) The Nine may be the best show on television right now. I really hope they don’t fuck it up.

What are you watching?
