Picture day

For some reason when I try to come up with a title for this post the song “Picture pages, picture pages, time to get your picture pages, time to get your crayons and your pencil,” goes through my head. This post has nothing to do with that old show or the song. I’m just posting a few pictures.

Done

Last night was my last knitting class. I finished my mittens. They’re not perfect, but they have thumbs and fit on my hands. They’re orange and cheery and somewhat lopsided, but I made them all by myself. Here’s one of them.

The color looks terrible with the flash but my camera died so I can’t take another. But you get the idea. I also made Boyfiend a scarf.

Considering the mitten class didn’t teach us how to change color, I think it looks great. Again, the color in the picture is a bit screwy, but it’s much closer to what it actually looks like than the picture of the mitten is.

Better

We still don’t know for sure what was wrong with Isaac, but our best guess is that some cat hating asshole kicked him in the stomach, causing the bruise and the high temperature. He’s recovered, but he’s pissed off he’s not allowed outside anymore.

He wasn’t very good about staying still so I couldn’t exactly get the picture I was going for. When they shaved his belly they exposed this cutie pouch of fat he’s got hanging from his belly. Shaved, it looks pretty funny when he sits upright, as his pouch sort of just sits on the floor. It reminds me of udders. You can sort of make it out, but it’s much funnier in person. He’s a good kitty, but I think the other cats might be making fun of his bad haircut.

Such a jerk

Sometimes on those pregnancy message boards I’ll come across a thread that makes me want to tell the posters how stupid they are. Some of these threads have to do with baby names, specifically stupid ones or classic names spelled incorrectly. If you really, really like the name Kaiser go ahead, but chances are he’ll be saluted with “Heil Hitler” at recess. And if you want to name your kid Britni or Mykel do, but I can assure you that people, especially your kid’s teachers, will initially think you and your kids are dumb if the name is spelled wrong on purpose.

Isaac’s ass, then mine

Isaac is home and he’s feeling much better. He’s not 100%, but he’s cuddly and eating and very happy to be home. So happy that he allows me to take his temperature twice a day without too much complaint. Sticking a thermometer up a cat’s ass isn’t such a good time.

Pregnancy-wise, my bra size has gone up a full cup size and my belly is huge. I’ve been busting out of my transition bras so I went shopping. I visited two stores- A Pea in the Pod and Motherhood Maternity. The two stores couldn’t have been more different. At a Pea in the Pod I was too afraid to try anything on because everything was gorgeous and too expensive. At Motherhood Maternity, most items were made with cheap fabrics and all of the shirts and pants I tried on were too big.

I was disappointed that I couldn’t find any cute and affordable clothes that actually fit. I didn’t want to go back to A Pea in the Pod where the cashmere hoodie, Juicy sweatsuits and 7 For All Mankind jeans were calling my name, so I bought a few bras and a belly belt thing that’s supposed to let you wear your pre-pregnancy pants. At home when I tried on a few pairs of my pre- pregnancy pants with the belt I was reminded that I didn’t buy maternity pants because my regular pants wouldn’t close, I bought them because they were getting too tight too pull over my thighs and ass. The belt has to go back. I’ll stick with maternity pants, thank you very much.

Update

Thanks for all the well wishes for Isaac.

Not much has changed, but his fever’s down and his belly doesn’t hurt as much today. If his fever is gone tomorrow they’ll send him home since they can’t find anything else wrong. His blood work looks normal but the x-rays still look screwy. They tried to sample the fluid in his lungs but couldn’t find it. After a second chest x-ray they still can’t tell if it’s fluid, some sort of mass, or gunk from an infection that doesn’t show up in any bloodwork. His kidneys, despite the scarring in the smaller one, are still functioning, so they’re currently a non-issue. The vet thinks the fever might be related to stress from a trauma. A fight with another cat or maybe getting hit by something? They still don’t know.

I went to visit him today and he seemed better. He wasn’t himself, but he was happy to see me even though he didn’t like the room we were in. Meowing pitifully, he walked in circles from me to the door to me and back to the door. His belly is completely shaved and he had an IV hookup taped to his paw. After the vet finished updating me on his progress we were left alone for a few minutes until the vet tech came to get him. I loved him and pet him and gave him kisses and scratches until he stopped moving, curled up on my sweater, and started shaking uncontrollably. I ran out to the desk and told them to page the doctor who came back down immediately, just in time to see poor Isaac’s eyes roll back in his head. I was on the verge of tears, but the vet explained that it was just the after effects of the medication he was given to sedate him for the x-rays. Like a flashback, or a bad trip. It was terrifying, but after a few minutes he seemed okay again. His eyes refocused, he purred and the vet took him back upstairs.

I hope his little kitty fever breaks and I can take him home tomorrow. I want him to be okay.
